Jenna Black
I’m a software engineering student and designer who builds practical tools with clean structure and intentional presentation. I care about systems that work reliably, but I also care about how they feel to use. If something is useful and well-designed, people don’t avoid it. They come back to it.
For the past 8 years I managed a law firm, where clarity and precision weren't optional. By night, I build web applications, internal tools, and experimental projects that balance logic, usability, and visual polish. I gravitate toward work that’s solid underneath and calm on the surface. Thoughtful systems. Clean interfaces. No unnecessary friction. I also really enjoy exploring my creative side by writing short stories and working on this website portfolio.
A Little Bit About Me
I came to software engineering through problem-solving. Years of office management with a firm that was in the process of moving to paperless when when I started. That taught me just how easy is it to misplace a file or a sheet of paper in an office full of paper. Digitizing files and only keeping hard copies when necessary, original wills for example, is the most efficient way to run a firm. Not to mention less paper means more trees for us to enjoy. I’d rather build tools people actually want to touch and are best for their users, and as I grew up with an attorney for a father and stepped up and taught myself how to manage a firm, I'd say I have a pretty solid grasp on what is and isn't needed for security of client data and usuability for the staff. I'm in inside man so to speak.
My approach blends structure, ease of use, and visual design. I think about workflows, types of cases, and what happens after launch, but I also care about typography, spacing, and first impressions. Presentation isn’t decoration. It matters. First impressions really can be everything. It’s part of how anything, human or inanimate, communicates and earns trust.
I’m especially interested in web development and internal tools where thoughtful design quietly improves daily work. I value clarity, maintainability, and interfaces that feel deliberate rather than bloated. I’m currently seeking junior or entry-level roles where I can grow as an engineer while contributing strong organization, design instincts, and attention to detail.
